City design challenge

Build one place that improves a neighborhood

A city is more than tall buildings. Design a place that helps people meet, learn, play, travel, or solve an everyday problem.

The brief

Start with who the building serves

  • Choose a purpose: library, station, park structure, workshop, or a new idea.
  • Make the entrance easy to find.
  • Use shape or color to show what happens inside.
  • Add a feature for people outside the building.
  • Check how it looks beside an imaginary street.

Group extension

Connect everyone’s models

Put several designs together. Decide where streets and shared spaces belong, then explain how the neighborhood works as a whole.

Ask the neighborhood

Evaluate more than appearance

Useful

What problem does this place solve, and for whom?

Readable

Can someone guess the building’s purpose by looking at it?

Connected

How would people enter, leave, and reach nearby places?
